Women And Writing Essay Example For Students
Women And Writing Essay Women And WritingSince the beginning of times, human beings have found various ways to expressthemselves and more specifically how to declare their feelings and emotions. Weall know that art (in a general term) is supposed to be the tool used forexpression. People from different communities, cultural backgrounds, andreligions, have been appealed to manifest and share their uniqueness throughart. Art, whether it was music, painting, sculpting or writing has been highlycensured through time because of its contents of truth. The majorities of asociety did not allow minorities to fully express themselves with fear ofmanifestations and revolts . Women, as a minority have fought to tell the truth. We will write a custom essay on Women And Writing specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now In order to understand better the meaning of Womens writing, we will firstanalyze the factors that pushed women to write, then we will go over theobstacles that women encountered and finally, we will discuss what the writerswanted to achieve through their writing. Factors that pushed women to writeThere are writers who need to make sense of the world theylive(Dorothy Allison, Trash, p.19.) This sentence shows that the writerneeded to write to see and understand herself through writing. This young whitewoman was living a life filled with alcohol and drug addiction, she tried toescape that trap by fooling herself and by rebuilding a total new idealisticimage of her person (working as a social worker.) However, throughout herprogression, she has been writing everything about herself on a yellow pad, whatever she would do, wherever she would be, those yellow pads were there, as arepresentation of her truth. She could fool herself, but not her yellow pads, her truth was written there. Allis on as many women in the world has been tryingto hide her suffering. Constantly fooling herself, she still had to yell out hertruth, this, by spreading her pain on paper. However, the papers were taboo, just like someone would litter an embarrassing amount of trash. Allison had totake out her story and anger, even if they were full of shame. She could notlive without writing, it was a matter of survival. This urge to write was sharedby some other women writers. The search of an understanding was the factor thatpushed Bell Hooks to write I began to feel uncertain, displaced, estrangedeven, this was the condition of my spirit when I decided to be a writer, to seekfor that light in words (Bell Hooks, remembered ruptures, p.15) after thatshe declares Searching for a space were writing could be understood, Iasked for a diary (Bell Hooks, remembered ruptures, p.15.) Writing was away to understand herself a little like Dorothy Allison, a way to look atones own person in a global manner, from a different angle, in other words, away to be objective about oneself ?situation. Not only do women write forthemselves with the thought that nobody can understand them, but they also writefor others, a way to make a declaration to the world, a way to change the truthby saying it . In her writings, Sandra Cisneros implies that she wants to changethe world. In her book The House on Mango Street she declares thatshe wants to leave the unpleasant neighborhood of Mango street, however, shesays that she will come back, probably not physically, but at least trough herbook. Coming back might mean that she wanted to do something to change Mangostreet, and that is trough her book, thats why she wrote it. Edwidge Danticattells us how her desire to write was consuming her in a society where Womenswriting was absolutely forbidden, something to do in the corner. Danticatlearned how her female ancestors have been expressing themselves through nothingelse than cooking, hair braiding or even carvi ng potatoes. But she wanted toperpetuate the creativity of her ancestors, she just needed to do it throughwriting. It was their whispers that pushed you, their murmurs over potssizzling in your head. A thousand women urging you to speak through the blunttip of your pencil. (Edwidge Danticat, Kirk? Krak! p.8.) By writing, shewould have passed along a culture, just like braiding or cooking. However, herwriting was threatening the natural functioning of a patriarchalsociety. Whether women write for themselves or for others, the main matter isthat they write for an urge of understanding. There is a clear desire ofcomprehension. Obstacles that women encountered In her paper A Room ofOnes Own, Virginia Woolf wonders ironically why women arepoor? She then tells us that it would have been near to impossible for awoman of that era to be wealthy. Women couldnt do anything else than havechildren and be submissive housewives, Making a fortune and bearingthirteen children-no human being could st and it (Virginia Woolf, A Room ofOnes Own, p.22.) And even if women had been able to earn money, they couldnot keep it until 1870. Unable to keep her money, a woman gives up the idea toearn it, and so , she confirms her idea that her natural place is in the house. .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 , .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .postImageUrl , .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 , .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:hover , .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:visited , .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:active { border:0!important; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:active , .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443 .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud27008d0f4b531c596bf8d88b9b34443:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Resistance in denmark EssayThis last idea was (and still is) adopted in most of the places of the world. Most of the worlds societies have defined women as a housekeeper. But howcould this endanger their ability to write? It could be said that if women aredoomed to stay home taking care of the house, their business isnowhere else. Men do not want to be invaded in the workplace, so women stayhome. Also staying home could just as well include writing at home. But we allknow that only about sixty years ago, reading was profaned for women. A womenliterate was the devil incarnated. This was probably set that way because weknow that reading and writing both develop the ability to think in a criticalmanner, and again, men did not want to have rivals in that sector. Maybe Woolftried to warn us in her paper since she declared that women need a room of theirown to be able to write. To be able to write, women needed a material andfinancial independence. Apparently, the major obstacle to womens writing wasthe presence, influence and domination of men. It Is in fact hard to be a rebelin an already v ery set and rooted culture. In Danticats society, writing wasforbidden, something to do in the corner when you could have been learning tocook. She describes how writing was considered a curse, by giving us theexplanations her mother gave her. She was a prisoner of her education andculture. Again, it was the same concept of societys manipulation andconditioning. If Danticat had had tried to rebel, she would have probably beenseen as the devil you and your writing demons in your head (EdwidgeDanticat, Kirk? Krak! p.10.), therefore, she would have been left on the sideand set as an example to any other young girl that would have had her ideas. There was always a fear to disappoint family, community and society by notstanding up to her good old culture You remember her silencewhen you laid your first notebook in front of her, her disappointment when youtold her that words would be your lifes work, like the kitchen had alwaysbeen hers. . (Edwidge Danticat, Kirk? Krak! p.7.) The societyDanticat was living in was very intolerant, and there is to believe that thesanctions were very strict for leaving the natural destiny of awoman, the cultural imperialism she was living in was totalitarian. Whatthe writers wanted to achieve by writing A woman who writes may want to achievedifferent tasks. As we have seen, a woman may have the urge to write, Bell Hooksfor instance, because she needs to understand herself since she doesnt findunderstanding among her surrounding. She could also need to write like AllisonDorothy, because she needs to face herself and she has so much inside her thatcan not been taken out unless it is trough writing. A woman may need to write toreveal a truth to the world the way Sandra Cisneros did it. Also, just likeEdwidge Dandicat, a woman may want to give the voice to kitchen poets in orderto fight cultural imperialism. Virginia Woolf as well probably surprised (orshocked) many people by trying to fight cultural imperialism by approaching thetaboo of Lesbianism Cloe likes Olivia?do not blush (Virginia Woolf,A Room of Ones Own, p.82.) Since the beginning of times, human beings havealways needed to express themselves, whether they are male or female. It iscrucial to the development of our societies that people speak out loud, so,whether it is spoken by a male or a female, the message has to go through. Also, each individual will express only his or her own feelings. That is maybe why, wedid not see any man talking about Lesbianism around the 1920s, it might also bewhy no men wrote anything like the concept of the Red Clowns of Sandra Cisnerosin the House on Mango Street. In other words, some things may just not beperceivable to men, just as other might not be to women. It is not said herethat there is a distinctive separation between male and female writing, theremight just be a different way of thinking. It is therefore of the utmostimportance for the sake of the good development of our world, that everybodygets a chance to express and share his or her ideas, in the least censuredmanner possible. .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 , .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .postImageUrl , .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 , .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:hover , .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:visited , .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:active { border:0!important; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: ba ckground-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:active , .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decor ation: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left: 18px; top: 0; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874 .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .udfe80abeb3fba75392261fa344069874:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: William Faulkner: His Life and Achievements Essay

How to Work With a Recruiter and Build a Lasting Relationship
How to Work With a Recruiter and Build a Lasting Relationship Chances are, at some point in your career, youââ¬â¢re going to need a recruiter. Itââ¬â¢s best not to attack them out of the blue when youââ¬â¢re at your most desperate. Instead, try to keep in mind that recruiters are human beings too. Try building a relationship that way, rather than being a job-sucking vampire. Also keep in mind there are different kinds of recruiters. Figure out first if youââ¬â¢re dealing with someone salaried who does this all day every day, or whether youââ¬â¢re dealing with someone who works only on commission. Tailor your needs to match theirs, and vice versa. Here is your 10-step plan to building a good relationship with a recruiter.1. Start with ââ¬Å"the talkâ⬠Your recruiter should open your working relationship by asking you a bunch of questions: who you are, where you are, what youââ¬â¢ve been doing, your strengths, your weaknesses, your goals, etc. The more they know about you, the better they can help put you in a good position- both for you and for the company.2. Know thyselfDonââ¬â¢t recruit a recruiter if you donââ¬â¢t already know what you want and need. Figure out what you want to do and be when you grow up before you start soliciting the services of a professional. Make sure that every job they put you up for is one youââ¬â¢d be glad to take.3.à Have all your documents readyGet your ducks in a row before making the call. Up-to-date resume, updated LinkedIn profile, a tasteful and professional headshot, a website, samples of your work, etc. And then go in with the list of companies or titles youââ¬â¢d like to aim for.4. Donââ¬â¢t be needyYouââ¬â¢re not in a position to make demands. The recruiter is not ââ¬Å"working forâ⬠you. Hopefully youââ¬â¢ll both come to a mutually advantageous outcome, but your chances of this go down the more you play the diva. Know your place in the food chain, make life easy on your recruiter, and things will turn out right.5. Ask for tipsIf you r recruiter knows a company well, feel free to ask for tips before you interview. There might be some very valuable information to be gleaned that you couldnââ¬â¢t get from the usual pre-interview research session.à 6. Think about your salary historyYou arenââ¬â¢t required to share this with your recruiter. But they can (and should) ask. And it might be useful for you both to be on the same page when it comes time to figuring out which applications fit you best.7.à Know the ins and outs of industry salaryIf you want to go for a pay increase, make sure youââ¬â¢ve done your homework and know exactly what the range is for your position or your field. If youââ¬â¢re really being underpaid, you can walk into a meeting with stats.8. Donââ¬â¢t be a pushoverSome recruiters do work entirely on commission. If they donââ¬â¢t place people that month, they donââ¬â¢t pay rent. Donââ¬â¢t let yourself get shoe-horned into a position that isnââ¬â¢t right for you just to please your recruiter. It is okay to say no and push for something more appropriate.9. Hold onto the good onesA good recruiter, with whom you have a fruitful working relationship, is a thing of beauty. Hold onto this relationship with both hands. Trust and goodwill are not to be taken for granted. And they arenââ¬â¢t always the norm.10. Give backIf you get the job, make sure to thank your recruiter. A thank you card goes a long way towards showing your appreciation and bolstering good will all around. And keep in touch! You never know when you might need your recruiterââ¬â¢s services again.

Popular American Culture Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Popular American Culture - Essay Example Other significant influences came from different parts of Europe. Countries from which large numbers of people immigrated these include Ireland, Germany, Poland, and Italy. American culture holds a significant pressure on the cultures of its neighbors in the World. The cultural divisions in United States depend on a number of factors such as social class, political orientation, ancestral traditions, sex and sexual orientation. Well every countryââ¬â¢s culture plays an important part in the decision making of the people who live in that country or belong to that country. For example while I make any decisions the first aspect would be to keep in mind the benefits of my country and to respect the norms and believes of my culture, every other aspect would be secondary to that. The United States is a country that has evolved its culture by a mixture of several cultures hence the popular culture keeps changing. Data Compression Algorithms.Use of Compression Algorithms in Forensics Essay
Data Compression Algorithms.Use of Compression Algorithms in Forensics - Essay Example Therefore, each algorithm has a number of strengths as well as weaknesses. The compression algorithms are also commonly used in forensics. These algorithms are used to reduce space amount required to store data on the computer hard disk. Usually, these algorithms are employed on the large files so that their size may be reduced. Mainly, there are two types of the compression algorithms include: lossless and lossy algorithms. The lossless compression algorithms have been developed to compress the data with hundred percent (100%) original data reconstruction from the compressed data. In these algorithms, you do not lose any data, as it preserves all the data as it is in novel form. For compressing the text or images, the algorithms that are used include: LZW, Borrows-Wheeler transform and LZ77 and Prediction by Partial Matching (also known as PPM). General purpose lossless compression algorithm include: run-length encoding, Lempel-Ziv 1978 (LZ78) and Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW). On the othe r hand, the lossy compression algorithms are mostly used to compress audio and video data or files. These algorithms are used to endeavour reducing or even eliminating the superfluous or redundant information from the video or audio files. Typically, the lossy algorithms or techniques attain a advanced level of compression by plummeting the by and large quality of the sound or image. In order to compress an image, the lossy algorithms that are used include: Wavelet Compression, block truncation coding, fractal compression, etc. Whereas, for video files, the algorithms include: DV, MPEG (I to IV), etc. and for the audio file famous techniques are MP3, MP2, AAC etc. Use of Compression Algorithms in Forensics The data compression algorithms are commonly used in forensics tools to get help during electronic investigations. There are a number of implications for the forensic inspector during an analysis or investigation these include: only the lossless compression can be utilized in fore nsics analysis, however, lossy compression cannot be used because it alters the original data but through the hash collisions , a compressed folder or file could be in a combination of both compressed and uncompressed data, it is recommended that the text file or data can always be compressed or decompressed by the lossless algorithms as a word document may contains a number of documents, therefore it is critical to lose any document. It should be kept in mind that if a Word document presents on hard disk in a compressed structure, when deleted then it resides in its compressed form. Therefore, searching a hard disk intended for a keyword will not get any result if the keyword only contained by the compressed deleted file. Whereas, on the other hand, an image file such as the JPEG has already been compressed in high format, therefore, it will yield deprived compression. In fact jpgââ¬â¢s usually have a compressed first cluster (this normally contains manufacturers info) followed by uncompressed clusters and compression units. It should be known to the forensic examiner that decompressing a file without remedy to the files Master File Table (MFT) record might not be achievable i.e. the only sign of whether a compression run has been compressed is within the MFT. It means that if a record of a file named ââ¬Ëdocumentââ¬â¢ is not available in the MFT, the operations of decompressing the file or extracting the compressed file may not be successful. PST Viewer According to the Forensic Control Limited in June 2012, the top (10) free computer forensic software are OSForensics, FTK Imager, Forensic Image Viewer, FoxAnalysis, Mail Viewer, PST Viewer, USB Write Blocker, P2 Explorer, Encrypted Disk Detector, and Dumplt. Filipino Overseas Contract Workers in the US Essay Example for Free
Filipino Overseas Contract Workers in the US Essay For the first study, it is expected that the researcher would determine the factors that motivate Filipinos to leave their own country and work abroad. This would include their financial situations in the Philippines together with family size, occupation of spouse, occupation or educational level of the children, and other demographics. Since it is quantitative, it is expected that the study will be able to generate statistics in order to determine the best reason for their migration. Participants would probably prefer to migrate because of more compensation and support for multicultural groups (Zalaquett, et. al, 2008). This also includes an opportunity to work with the protection of the law implemented in the United States. Qualitative data would suggest poor chances of development for them in their own country. It is also expected in the trend study results that US foreign policy will be implemented for the migration of Filipinos in the country. More Filipinos are expected to leave their country and eventually take their families after they have established their lives in the States. However, the study does not make use of any scale in concluding for its objectives. The study is also limited to Filipinos whereas other races such as Israelites and Palestinians are not included. Also, the focus is only on the reason why Filipinos prefer to leave the Philippines and work in other countries (American Psychological Association, 2002). Based on the expected outcomes of the study, it is recommended by the researcher that further studies be initiated on this specific topic. It is also recommended that a study be conducted on job satisfaction of Filipino overseas workers (OFWs) in the United States and compare them with those who prefer to stay in the Philippines. A comparative study on workerââ¬â¢s rights and social security policies between the Philippines and other OFW filled countries is also recommended to further supplement the results of the present study. Jewish Contributions to the Early Civil Rights Movement Essay -- The Ci
In many ways, the 1950s planted the seeds for the progress of the 60s. Glimpses of the rebellious generation, who would later find its way to the anti-War protests, are found throughout the fifties, specifically in movies like Rebel Without a Cause and more overtly in Jack Kerouac?s On The Road. The move away from conformity and towards more of an individualistic mentality began in the somewhat closed circles of the Beat movement and spread throughout America during the sixties. The Montgomery Bus Boycotts and Brown V. Board of Education were great precursors to the revolutionary civil rights legislation of the mid sixties. Whereas for most of the aforementioned societal changes, the 50s only exhibited hints of what was to come in the sixties, members of the civil rights movement built an impressive resume and did more than merely build a base for the 60s. The fifties marked a time when civil rights began to take front stage for many Americans and served as the call to action for Afr ican-Americans. Blacks decided that they would no longer sit around waiting for change, but that they were going to get up and right the wrongs of the North and South. Tremendous historical events, some which took days and some which took years, were planned and successfully carried out in this decade. Individuals were mobilized, great leaders emerged, and powerful organizations took center stage. But, the African-Americans were certainly not alone. Along with them stood Whites of all backgrounds and religions, of all social classes and perspectives, and of all reasons and justifications.
